One of the most frequented places by tourists in the Philippines is the island of Bohol. This includes both local and foreign visitors. The island is rich in natural features, old cultures plus a number of captivating scenery that makes it worth touring.

1. The Chocolate Hills


The Chocolate Hills in Carmen, Bohol are also known as Tsukolateng Burol. Estimated hills are 1,776 on the island but are confirmed at least 1, 260 of these rare conical shaped limestone hills exist. With a customized bicycle, you can cycle up the hills and enjoy your ride. Though they exist as a result of a volcanic eruption, it’s all about their perfect arrangement and how they assume the chocolate like color in the dry season – that is how they get their name.

 

2. Meet the Tarsiers

Some primates and animals are almost becoming extinct and in the Philippines, tarsier is one of them. Here are a few features about this primate worth noting;

  • Although they are very small like the size of a human hand (between 85 and 160 millimeters in height), Tarsier have big eyes.
  • They are able to rotate their heads through 180 degrees but spend most of their time hiding for example on bamboo leaves
  • These primates are so fearful that at times tourist activities are even enough to stress them to death
  • The best place to watch these tiny primates is in their usual environment like the in the wildlife sanctuary.
  • Tarsiers are nocturnal animals. There are active at night and have their rest during day time.

You would even get diving boats or take a tour on the ocean easily on Doljo. If you are up for a more lively atmosphere, check out Alona beach. You can say that they still conform to their old culture; ever smiling, religious and generous. The tidy streets, well-maintained house with attractive flower beds tell it all about their hospitality. Most Asian roads or estates are littered with garbage, but not the Boholano people.

 

9. Waterfalls


One of the best waterfalls, strategically located for easy viewing is in Candijay. Even at a far, the waterfall is quite visible. The Can-umantad falls from a distance appears to be one drop, but a closer inspection will reveal three layers. The rocks and vegetation around the falls also add to its magnificent beauty. There is also the Mag-aso falls in the town of Loon, as well as the Twin Falls in the town of Dimiao.

 

10. Rice Fields


The carefully but largely cultivated rice fields around Bohol add to the beauty of its landscape. You can find rice fields and terraces in almost every town you pass when driving or touring around Bohol.
